Thousands of congregations across the country are organizing their members to help end the genocide in Darfur. Currently, many congregations are participating in our “Ten Days of Action for Darfur” campaign.
Today, as the first of those days, we encourage you to “Shine a light for Darfur.” Join thousands of other Darfur activists by organizing a local candlelight vigil to remember the victims of the genocide in Darfur.
Place a single lit candle in your window as a remembrance, or ask others in your community to join with you and hold your event in a public place.
Houses of worship are helping their Darfurian brothers and sisters by:
- Devoting a sermon to teach congregants about the ongoing genocide and spurring them to take action to help the people of Darfur
- Distributing information and postcards in their congregational bulletins
- Fundraising for relief assistance for refugees in Darfur and Chad
- Leading a special prayer for peace in Darfur
Save Darfur Faith Action Packets
The Save Darfur Coalition is calling on communities from across the country to participate in the Global Day for Darfur on September 17, 2006.
We are building excitement and interest for this special day by undertaking a series of activities ten days before this historic occasion. The Save Darfur Coalition has produced a guide to help you mobilize your congregation to help the people of Darfur. These specialized guides provide sample prayers, sermons and congregational bulletin inserts that you can modify to best serve your house of worship.
