The clamour for legislative responses - and comcomitant taxes - following the Stern report has only just begun.
Conclusions flowing from the nascent and incipient science upon which the climate debate has been framed are now almost inevitably (frequently intimidatingly) proclaimed as a ‘fait accompli’ - an irreverisble accomplishment - but it is not and anyone who cares about this issue needs to face it honestly.
‘Apocalypse Cancelled’ is a rigorous scientific report in which Christopher Monckton explains “how politicians, scientists and bureaucrats contrived a threat of Biblical floods, droughts, plagues, and extinctions worthier of St John the Divine than of science.”

global warming
Monckton’s study is an impressive one but I find that beneath all of the analysis, what he offers is that CO2 may not be as big of a contributor as was suspected and that the sun also plays a large part in global warming along with other forcing factors such as increased heat generated from human building activity (urbanisation).
Along with all other scientists, Monckton acknowledges that CO2 will contribute to warming to some extent. Of course we do not have much control over the sun’s output but we do know that increasing green cover will be the best way to ameliorate increases in sun radiation.
It is acknowledged that the recent trend of warming is only the beginning of a cyclic period. What is of concern is how high temperatures will rise before they start falling. Unlike in previous warm periods, this time we have additional CO2, additional direct heat production from fossil fuel consumption, increases in urban and rural construction and destruction of forest cover!
Whatever we can do about each of these issues should be done, and we can then wait out the warming cycle knowing that we have not done anything to either exacerbate or prolong it!
I also found some rather glaring oversights in Monckton’s study. He casually asserts that coral island growth will offset rising oceans… He also ignores the fact that in the initial phases of a warming cycle, increased precipitation will actually cause modest increases in Arctic high altitude ice while the rate of glacier flow will also be increased due to the higher temperatures. Lower latitude glaciers will diappear and this is in fact happening. As icecaps melt, the local sea temperatures will drop and this will, for some time sustain anomalous cooling in and around the icecaps - something that his own data supports!
He has done an excellent job of trashing the UN’s work which has always been felt to be suspect by the scientists that I know.

global warming waning
I appreciate the information and am glad to see there are still some scientists who are not willing to jump on the politically correct bandwagon just to be able to socialize with their peers. But why are so many ‘Christians’ on this bandwagon anyway? I can’t put that one together. Any help?
