Re: Word of God?
hehe :-)
This gets back to part of the frustration alluded to in my initial post — the idea that scholars, or laypersons in general, should accept Jesus based on anything other than faith alone, is generally met with a high level of defensiveness from many Christians. On the one hand, I can understand that. There is a point when faith becomes all we have and we have to rely on that. But on the other, I really want to respond with more than "God said it, I believe it, that settles it." And that seems to run contrary to the mindset of many of the Christians I know.Just the other night I was talking to a friend about our responsibilities as Christians, and she said (basically), "all we have to do is live like Christ, show people who Christ is and why they need Christ, and He will take care of the rest." While I agree with this statement in principle, it is overly simplistic and has very little real-world application. So I get frustrated because it seems like people are just giving easy answers that don’t help much, especially in a world where it seems we can’t agree on what "living like Christ" really means.
I am tired of that kind of answer.
